History

The Society

The Kapiti Arts and Crafts Society Inc. was founded in 1974 by several local artists, including the late Tui McLauchlan, for the various potters, carvers, spinners, knitters, weavers, felters and painters in the area.

Kāpiti Gallery

The Kapiti Arts and Craft Society Gallery, established in 1992, is located at the back of the Matai Road Reserve at Raumati Beach.

An attractive extension to the Arts Rooms, the Gallery regularly exhibits works by Society members, and occasionally by other local guest artists. In addition to regular ongoing multi-faceted displays throughout the year, every month the Gallery features different disciplines of art or craft with artists in action where possible.

The Gallery gratefully acknowledges the continuing support of Members for their valuable contribution to the Gallery operation.

The Shop

Located in Raumati Village – between the pharmacy and a hairdressing salon – is the Society’s shop: 20 Raumati Road, Raumati Beach.

The Society prides itself on the high standard and uniqueness of their members’ products, some of which are available for purchase at the Kapiti Arts and Craft Society Shop.
